This was a tour we organised in 2015 - ask us if you'd like us to enquire about it for 2019.
You can also spot these beautiful Mouflons on any self-organised walk in the Apuan Alps - ask us for advice on starting points, maps and itineraries. But we liked this offer as you get shown the best spots to see them from, and get some training on approaching them quietly ...
The offered Tour:
Included in the price is dinner, an overnight stay at the CAI mountain hut and breakfast the following morning.
Thanks to the help of an Environmental Guide with experience as a wildlife photographer you will be introduced to this fascinating activity in close contact with nature. Participants will be shown the basic techniques of good nature photography and the proper method of stalking as not to disturb the animals.
The excursion takes place within the Regional Park of the Apuan Alps along ancient footpaths and mule tracks that lead from the valley to mountain pastures and high altitude caves. Along the way, you will have the chance to observe and take photographs of single individuals or small groups of these magnificent hoofed mammals, which in the Apuan Alps have found their ideal environment. The best time to spot them is definitely the sunrise and sunset, so the departure of the excursion will take place in the afternoon with an overnight stay at the refuge. The hike is considered easy for hikers (classification CAI – E) due to the reduced length of the path and the moderate altitude (about 330m). The path can also be suitable for people who have no experience on mountain trails, but, in this case, the guide should be informed in advance.
