The two apartments of Canaiolo and Trebbiano can be taken together as they join internally, making a lovely larger family holiday home. Trebbiano's covered loggia faces the pool while Canaiolo has a living room large enough for all, closer to the old threshing ground on the winery estate. On a gentle hill in some of the loveliest countryside of Tuscany, the ancient, aristocratic winery in the little village of Lornano has been in the same family for generations. Three houses are arranged round an old threshing floor, like the piazza of a hamlet. They all have plenty of space and height. Much of the furniture is antique, cleverly co-ordinated with good quality Tuscan furniture in excellent taste. The large pool, about 50 metres beyond the houses, has a wide, furnished surround and shares in the beautiful views of the Chianti countryside, framed with flowers, herbs and shrubs attracting a myriad of butterflies.
There are several entrances to this spacious apartment, but the front door opens from the flower-filled piazza into a lovely, beam ceilinged entry with a wide brick arch separating the kitchen from the sitting room. On one side is an open fireplace and, in a spacious kitchen, a dining table that opens to twice its size; on the other, the sitting room furniture is enhanced by wicker seating, a small sofa, an unusual red lacquered Tuscan chest of drawers and an arched window. Stairs from the centre of this room lead to the first floor, which has a bathroom, a twin bedroom, and a double bedroom with a private, small terrace looking onto the owners' garden.
From the sitting room there is a door which interconnects to a very large double bedroom with with a queen bed and, on request, a single. This room has wide arched French doors to the central piazza. A short stairway leads down to a second sitting room, off of which is a compact kitchen that accesses the patio, as well as a short hallway leading to a shower room. Guests staying in this house have both a reserved spot on the lovely piazza near their front door entrance and a furnished coverd terrace overlooking a small garden to the back of the house off the sitting room.
The owners at the villa have their own, private parts of the grounds and parklands, and may occasionally use the pool. Guests have their own parking space and entrance, separate from the owners' villa. While you enjoy your holiday, 100 meters away exquisite wines are slowly moving and maturing in oak casks in the ancient cellars below the villa, lovingly tended just as they have been for centuries past. A visit to the cellars is a wonderful way of cooling off, for the natural temperature there varies between 12 degrees in winter and 18 degrees in the high summer, all brought about by the construction of the ancient cellars themselves. Touring from Lornano is a constant delight along picturesque roads. These three houses are sufficiently private for separate renting, while if taken by a group, there is plenty of space for everyone to meet together.
