With large ensuite bedrooms, dining options inside and out, and a pool surrounded with greenery, this house is an ideal option for a family holiday; once you approach the golden brown tones of its strong facade, you will have the feeling of coming home. Recognizing what an ample space they had to work with, the present owners have been respectful and retained the generous proportions that make this house ideal for a family reunion or a holiday base for a group of friends. Set away from the main road up a long track, this large L-shaped building and its gracious courtyard is a generous and private home from home.
With the ground floor originally dedicated to animals, the farmer would have taken the external staircase up to the first floor; modern visitors, however, will likely slip into the ground floor through the front door or any of those off the courtyard. Wide brick arches replace doors and create a wonderful open layout that leads from a spacious entry hall to a comfortable sitting room with a fireplace, on to a dining room with room for all and then to a roomy country kitchen whose marble topped table and kitchen fireplace make it the ideal place for creating Tuscany-inspired meals. Also on the ground floor, allowing attractive accommodation for those preferring greater privacy and fewer stairs, is a large double bedroom with ensuite shower room. The staircase from the entryway leads up to a sitting room with large sofas, a fireplace and a telescope awaiting the night skies. Short hallways off either side of the sitting room lead to two double bedrooms, each with an ensuite shower room, while at the end of a longer corridor is a twin or double bedroom with an extra single bed and an ensuite bathroom, perfect for a children's slumber party.
With three doors leading directly to the furnished courtyard, this becomes another popular living area. Tables and chairs, a generous umbrella and a nearby barbecue mean it becomes ideal for meals al fresco. A break in the encircling courtyard wall leads to a pathway to the pool, where a cabana, sunbeds and umbrellas surround the refreshing magnet for guests of all ages.
Though a local cook can easily be arranged to provide meals for guests at Cuculo, a short distance along the main road is a charming bar/restaurant that could serve as a holiday 'local'. Nearby, antique-hunters may delight in their finds from the medieval towns of Monte San Savino and Arezzo, and those wishing to accentuate their restorative holiday can seek out the spa benefits of Rapolano Terme. Cortona, of 'Under the Tuscan Sun' fame, Siena and its unique shell-shaped piazza and Montepulciano and the 'nobile' wine that shares its name are all within easy driving distance and filled with meandering streets and joyful discoveries. And as the land itself is also worth exploration, horse trekking and mountain biking is available to let you travel the slow lane and still be back in your courtyard by the time the pasta is ready to go in the pot.
We really enjoyed or stay in Villa Cuculo, a most attractive and interesting villa set in spectacular landscape. The accommodation suited us perfectly with four bedrooms all ensuite and the open plan living, dining and kitchen area was large and ideal for us to enjoy, dining by candlelight each evening. We also enjoyed very much the pool and surrounding poolside amenities.
We visited Sienna, Arezzo and market day in Monte San Savino and enjoyed a birthday lunch for my daughter in a great restaurant in Gargonza when visiting the spectacular medieval Castello di Gargonza. We hired two cars which worked well for six adults, allowing us to travel comfortably and worked well.
I would certainly recommend Villa Cuculo and congratulate the owners for a great interior and most suitable and attractive accommodation.
Yours Sincerely and thanks for all your assistance in making our holiday a success.
