Large and generous, with a swimming pool at its heart and plenty of spaces for outdoor eating, the villa lies in the forested hills south of Cotignac set within the stunning Provencal landscape, in nine acres of unspoilt nature with an abundance of lavender, pines and olive trees and with great views over the hills. Like an ancient Roman Villa it is wrapped around a central courtyard, which here houses a swimming pool, surrounded by the rhythm of a covered arcade, thus creating a secluded and unique ambiance. Many of the rooms open directly on to this area, which creates a wonderful social environment and makes this an eminently livable and permeable house. Owned by an ex-hotelier, it is equipped for comfort and family living, making it an ideal house for family reunions, with a great kitchen inside and a gas barbecue outside. The central courtyard is used like an extra room, perfect for relaxing around the pool during the day and for alfresco dining in the evening, the umbrella pines covering the hillside a wonderful backdrop. This version for 6 guests makes use of all the comforts of the villa which is perfectly placed to explore the region.
The approach to the property is via a sweeping driveway leading to an ample parking area. An impressive stone staircase leads you to the front entrance accessing a hallway with guest WC and leading to a spacious living/dining area, beautifully designed with high ceilings, exposed beams, traditional terracotta floors and French doors opening out to the pool area. While this area also has a convenient laundry room, the heart of this house is definitely the kitchen, where character and colour abound, a great place to enjoy an aperitif whilst at the breakfast bar. Accessed from the living room is a large master suite whose French doors lead out to the pool area. The bedroom has a sunken bath and a shower in the room as well as a separate WC and dressing room.
A further four bedrooms on this level form the second wing of the property. The first bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom, while two other bedrooms that share a bathroom, one with a mezzanine area, both benefit from French doors out to the pool area. The fourth bedroom, with an ensuite shower room, also has French doors to the pool.
Upstairs another spacious suite with plenty of character and designed to make the most out of the beautiful vaulted ceiling, also includes a sitting area and a shower room. While there are six bedrooms in this large house, the owner makes it available for smaller groups; the number of bedrooms available will be adjusted to suit the group.
The third wing of the courtyard, which includes the summer kitchen with pizza oven, BBQ area, and a shower room creates an extremely sociable area with many places to relax and enjoy this beautiful setting. The garden set within the courtyard and surrounding the pool has manicured lawn and terraces with an abundance of flower-draped pots. A terrace directly outside the main kitchen with an electronic sunblind provides a welcome shaded area to sit and relax. All bedrooms poolside are protected from the midday sun by the stunning stone arches that surround the inner courtyard.
Correns in the heart of green Provence is an enchanting Provencal village with a refreshingly slow pace of life. This charming village prides itself on being France's first organic village. Sheltered by the Massif Du Bressillon mountain range, it is nestled into the banks of the river Agens, which meanders through the village. It is an ideal setting for family and cultural tourism, steeped in history, troglodyte dwellings, Neolithic caves and a place with a wealth of outdoor pursuits such as hiking , canoeing, climbing and fishing. The village itself has a good Boulangerie, small supermarket and bar and the L'auberge du Parc Gastronomic Restaurant, which offers a Menu du Marche most days using a selection of fresh produce bought from the area and often seen in the bustling Friday market.
Nearby, the chateau Miravel, a former 13th century monastery, is now an actors-owned recording studio where Pink Floyd recorded parts of 'The Wall' album. Also in the vicinity are many famous abbeys including Abbaye de Thoronet and the Grotte de St Madelaine, a 950 m. cave where Mary Magdalene is said to have spent the last 30 years of her life.
