Family villa apartment for 4 in a Tuscan villa close to a lovely village, with restaurants, cafes and grocery stores. The owner makes biological wines and good olive oil from the vineyards and olive groves that surround the house. Comfortable relaxing decor in this perfect family villa and pool make it a perfect Tuscan holiday base.
In an inspiring panoramic position, facing across endless unspoilt countryside dotted with vineyards, forests and dramatic hills, Olivo is a ground floor apartment in Bellavista, a restored stone farmhouse below the Tuscan hill village of Radicondoli, 500 metres down a track from a country road. The present owners have restored olive groves and renewed vineyards, producing excellent wine and olive oil. Even more care has gone into the three apartments. The swimming pool is on a terrace with never-ending views over the Tuscan countryside. The custodian lives nearby and is very conscientious and helpful.
All on the ground floor, Olivo has one entrance just above the gardens leading down to the pool, and another into the double bedroom at the far side of the house. This apartment, too, has a nicely furnished kitchen/living room, a double and a twin/double bedroom, each with its own shower room. The roof is insulated and air-vented, walls are insulated for sound and floors are paved with old terracotta tiles on the ground floor, restored wood on the first floor. Everything chosen for restoration and furnishing, from ovens to linens is top quality and excellent taste.
Surrounding the house are gardens with roses and herbs, and on one side, next to "Olivo", is the amazing pool with a large paved terrace, plenty of sun furniture and a cleverly concealed shower in an ancient (dead) olive tree. The views from the whole property, and in particular from the pool, must be among the very best anywhere, with mile upon mile of meadows, olive groves and hills leading into mountains in the background, wonderful for exploring on foot, by car or bicycle. At the rear, Radicondoli is silhouetted on its hill, only 800 metres away.
Firstly, we had a brilliant time (except for Ryanair, not your responsibility!). The service you provided was superb. I have never come across so helpful a company, with such quick responses. Excellent!
The web description of the apartments was completely accurate. The view is just spectacular. Only a couple of very minor points: you need to be fit or an energetic child to walk up to the village! And, in your written details, it might be worth stressing the value of stocking up on food at a supermarket before arrival. The Coop at Poggibonsi Sud was excellent but quite a trek once we we in Radicondoli. Are there supermarkets and/or/ markets and butchers nearer? I think I saw a butchers in Casole (recommended by you and a lovely place to visit with an interesting Etruscan museum).
Radicondoli was just right. 3 different restaurants, each delightful. My grandkids liked watching the football at the National which also has a good menu. The Pergola, noted in your leaflets, was excellent too but booking advisable. The tourist office is very helpful. But, being in such an isolated spot, best stick to the mainish roads! The forest area to the south east of the village was a bit hairy!
On the region, we enjoyed Casole. Helpful, as we had an ageing mother, that it has a lift from the car park. For those with kids Monteriggioni has a nice little museum where you can try on armour. Colle Alta was much more interesting than we had imagined after driving through the lower town. We had been before to San Gimiginano: very impressive but best to get there early as parking a challenge...And Siena was matchless.
Thanks once again, we shall hope to book with you again.
We had a really enjoyable two weeks at Olivo. We knew what to expect having stayed there in 2012 and we were not disappointed. The accommodation is ideal for us, and the pool is great. Very enjoyable to eat meals overlooking the pool and experiencing the fantastic long-distance views, and also the sunset in the evenings. The Pergola restaurant in Radicondoli is recommend, the village being a 20 minute walk (uphill), but only a 15 minute walk back!! There are good grocery stores in the village. We visited Siena, San Gimignano, Montalcino and Casole d'Elsa, all of which are within a reasonable driving distance. The region is good for driving with little traffic - although this may change later in the summer.
We had an absolutely wonderful time. The villa, grounds and pool were perfect and beautifully kept by the lovely Alessandro. The views were incredible and ever-changing from watching the steam rising in the valleys in the early morning to watching the sun setting over the hills at night. We enjoyed relaxing around the villa and pool as well as visiting several of the beautiful towns in the locality. We spent time in Radicondoli most days which we absolutely fell in love with. It has such a relaxed and unpretentious feel. We found everyone very friendly and willing to help. The little Co-op has plenty of provisions avoiding the need for a trip to a big supermarket (bliss!) and on Sunday when the Co-op is shut there is a another smaller shop a few doors away. We spent several evenings in Radicondoli having food and drinks at The Nationale and The Agriteca. Both serve very good food and are friendly and welcoming. Lastly we have to say what a lovely gentleman Alessandro is. He is so keen to help and told us to call him any time of the day or night if there was a problem (not that we needed to). The wine that is produced from the vineyard is amazing. We were given a complimentary bottle when we arrived and bought a few more from Alessandro at a good price. Thank you for all your help with arranging our holiday. We have found Invitation To Tuscany a very good company to book through and would definitely consider using you again in the future.
Olivio was every bit as good as it looks in the pictures online. Definitely recommended. We enjoyed many a lunch outside with the pool and the rolling Tuscan hills as a backdrop. The local town is well worth the 15 to 20 minute walk uphill with two lovely restaurants.
We had a fantastic week at Olivo. The farmhouse and views far exceeded our expectations - absolutely breathtaking ! The stillness and tranquility of the surrounding area was wonderful. For 2 couples, the accommodation was perfect - the bedrooms were very separate each having it's own en-suite bathroom. The twin room was made up as a double for us which was convenient and there was plenty of space for clothes etc. We made breakfast and lunch at Olivo and had all the kitchen utensils and crockery that we needed. Alessandro met us on our arrival and showed us around Olivo and also where he makes his own wine - 'Epibios'. This was a lovely touch, and really enhanced our stay there. On the last few days of our stay he used his tractor in the vineyards, and apologised for the noise and gave us a bottle of his wine ! This was totally uneccesary but a lovely gesture.
