Pastoraccia is a large, comfortable house that has been carefully restored by the owner of the Collina estate and with room for 16 guests, it is ideal for a family reunion or a group trip.
High on a ridge in the Apennine hills, the farmhouse of La Collinaccia is split in two by the border – you can sleep in Emilia Romagna and have your breakfast in Tuscany without ever leaving the house! The views are astounding in either direction, ranges of hills going on forever. Emilia Romagna is the region of good cooking: Tortellini, Parma ham, Parmesan cheese, Bolognese ragù, ravioli are all from this area. Tredozio itself, the small town at the foot of the hill, boasts a Michelin starred restaurant whose chef will come and cook for you in La Collina – a gourmet’s dream. Tredozio also hosts concerts during the summer ranging from Jazz to Chamber music, and has tennis courts, shops and restaurants.
One enters the house into an enormous dining hall, which has a table large enough for 16. Next to this entrance hall there is also a kitchen. The stairs lead up into a large living room with a working fireplace surrounded by comfortable sofas. To the left is an eat-in, well-equipped kitchen. To the right of the living room a corridor leads to the four bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, though not en-suite. At the end of the corridor a terrace allows beautiful views over the swimming pool and the hills of Emilia Romagna.
The entrance to the lower floor is on the other side of the house – the Tuscan side. The entrance leads into a large living room with a stone fireplace. Turning right one finds the dining room, which also has a door into the communal dining room. Beyond the dining room there is a spacious, well-equipped kitchen. Beyond the kitchen there is a bedroom with its own bathroom and independent access into the garden. Back in the main living room, a spiral staircase leads up into a small, independent suite, while a corridor at the far end of the living room leads to 2 further bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one with a bath and one with a shower. The last bedroom along the corridor also has its own door to access the garden.
The house is set in a wonderful position and has views that continue forever. Pastoraccia, like the other houses on the Estate, is a wonderful base for visiting the east of Italy – Ravenna with its wonderful Byzantine mosaics or Rimini where one of Alberti’s more formal architectural projects, the Tempio Malatestiano, still stands. The Adriatic coast is about an hour away and Faenza, with its rich tradition of ceramics, is within half an hour's drive. Bologna, Ancona or Rimini are better airports to fly to than Pisa or Florence though the latter can easily be reached by driving across the mountains to Marradi and taking the train.
There is a cleaning fee of 350 Euro to be paid on site.
