You would be hard-pressed to find a more central location: equidistant between the Uffizi Gallery and the Duomo, this property is ideally placed for exploring the delights of this Renaissance city. Yet it also manages to be quiet and relaxing: none of its windows overlooks the busy streets, they all open onto a central courtyard which opens out toward the Duomo, giving every window a spectacular view and making the whole apartment a quiet haven. Air-conditioning throughout also makes it a perfect place to retreat after a good days exploration of the city.
On the second floor of an old Palazzo, Piero's place is reached via a wide shared staircase, with a wire-caged lift in the centre. The ceilings of these old buildings are so high that even 2 floors are quite a climb. Upon entering you have a double bedrooms to your right and a shower-room to your left. A step further and you are in the spacious living room, with a double sofa bed convenient if a friend or two decides to join you at the last minute, and 3 windows looking on to Brunelleschi's magnificent dome, wonderfully close.
On the left side of the living room, a wide corridor leads to a second double bedroom and shower-room and then to a dining room and kitchen. The dining room has a terrace, again with the close-up view of the Duomo - a spectacular spot for one's breakfast. The kitchen is small but well-equipped, with a dishwasher and large fridge. The second shower-room has a washing machine in it.
Where to start! The building itself is in the heart of the city, a mere 100 m. from Palazzo Portinari, the home of Dante Alighieri's beloved and inspirational Beatrice. Dante's house is only a few steps away, as is the recently reopened Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, with medieval and Renaissance sculptural works created to adorn the cathedral complex.
In this Renaissance jewel box of a city everything awaits: museums full of art about which guidebooks wax poetic, monumental piazzas and graceful bridges, concerts and delicious places to duck into for dinner or a world-famous gelato. The advantage, of course, is that unlike Stendahl, who suffered from stimulus overload, you can take in as much as you like, retreat to the restful apartment and easily return whenever you’re restored. Visitors only spending a few days in Florence might consider the Firenze Card, the city's museum pass valid for 72 hrs. which allows them to bypass long lines and slip into whatever museum is highest on their list.
With Florence on the doorstep to the Chianti, heading out in the car in search of its renowned wine will take you to picturesque villages such as Greve, Panzano or Radda in Chianti. Those who prefer public transportation could opt for the short bus trip directly to Siena, Florence’s ancient rival and worthy counterpart, itself a medieval gem whose artwork is of earlier centuries, but whose famous shell-shaped piazza and Palio horse race is timeless.
This Property has a 100 Euro final cleaning fee to be paid directly on site.
No public parking. Piero has a deal with a local car park for a daily rate. Tourist tax to be paid directly to owner onsite between €3.00 and €5.00per person per day
