On a wooded crest of the Montagnola hills outside Siena, this beautifully restored farmhouse gives the immediate impression of protected peace. The surrounding rural landscape is a composite of the ilex oak trees that foster porcini mushrooms, olives groves, whose fruit becomes the owners' distinctive olive oil, and meadows where deer graze in peace.
At the end of a cypress-lined drive, the house is enclosed at the front by large walled courtyard. There is one entryway into a hall and a cloak room, and another into a large country kitchen with an open fireplace and equipped with all amenities necessary for a gourmet dinner or cooking classes to inspire one. An open archway leads to the dining room with access to a small furnished terrace. Another arch leads up to the living room with its spectacular fireplace built on natural rock formation and french doors onto a Zen terrace, perfect for enjoying cocktails and the evening light. Also on this floor are two twin bedrooms each with en suite shower rooms, and a small WC with washer and dryer. Antique travertine stairs lead up to a landing with access to a covered loggia overlooking the courtyard. On this floor there is a large living room with open fireplace and one twin and two double bedrooms, all with en suite shower rooms. All twin bedrooms can be made into doubles upon request.
Additional accommodation is available in the converted barn. Light and airy thanks to its open plan design, on the upper level it has a double and a twin bedroom, each with an en suite shower room. An open staircase leads below to a dining room/kitchen and a living area with a fireplace and large doors onto a furnished terrace.
The house has been recently restored with great care and retains many of its original Tuscan features. The decor is elegant but eclectic: beam ceilings, wood and local stone, softly coloured walls and terracotta floors all find a natural mix with twists of modern Italian design. Behind the main house there is a travertine terrace, with umbrellas and good quality sun furniture and a pool whose infinity edge looks out over the low Montagnola hills and whose fountain provides refreshing massage As lovely as this house is, there may be good reasons to be away from it briefly, for the medieval city of Siena, with art, music concerts, and its famous piazza is only a short drive away.
I won't make this long but it's safe to say that Pipistrelli was fantastic. Better than expectations which were very high. The villa is absolutely incredible & the level of service was amazing. Francesco is a star. He took amazing care of us. The group dinners they do two nights a week are a must and having breakfast and dinner prepared at the villa was perfect. I would 100% go back again. Thank you for the help.
A beautiful 17th century villa located on a 1500 hectare estate of olive groves and vineyards. Manager Francesco greeted us and catered to our every need supplying a breakfast cook, a catered dinner, and some excellent wines from the estate's cantina. The villa accommodates up to 14 people with 5 bedrooms c/w bathrooms in the main villa, a dining room, a large kitchen and two living rooms while the annex has two more bedrooms and a large open living area. The views over the Tuscan hills are beautiful, especially at sunset, and we enjoyed the trip of a lifetime with 5 couples using the villa as base to tour other Tuscan towns. It is located 15 minute from Siena and only an hour drive to Florence, Volterra, San Gimgnano, Castellina, and Cortona, to name a few towns. Nearby towns like Rosia, Orgia, and Stigliano offer reasonable and tasty dining options and groceries.
I agree the pictures do not do it justice! We stayed 1 week with extended family, including children between 3 to 12 years, we hardly saw the kids, they were so entertained playing around the property with so much to explore yet in a very safe setting. The rest of us had plenty of space to hang out with each other or do our own thing. Plenty of exploring to do around the area, by foot bike or car! We are going back for more this year :)
A truely beautiful house in a stunning setting, the pictures do not do it justice. Silent at night with no light pollution, classic unspoilt tuscan views buy day all finished off elegantly furnished rooms that will break your heart when you have to leave.
