This is an elegant Tuscan country house, ideal for a family reunion or Italian holiday. The decor reflects the international tastes of the owner, with impeccable attention to detail and wonderful spaces outside as well as inside, like the elegant living area under a pergola close to the dining room. The house comes with a daily maid, to make sure that your holiday is truly relaxing. The large swimming pool faces the hills rolling away in the distance.
A short drive away from Siena, this house is nevertheless very private, set above views of the famous rolling hills of the “Crete Senesi”, south of the city. To the west a luxurious 18 hole golf course makes this the perfect location for golf enthusiasts.
Across the sea of lavender that fronts the main house is a lovely guest cottage with wrought iron table and chair at its entrance. It has a large double bedroom with hardwood floors and successful mix of styles and colour, adjoined by a spacious bathroom and French doors to a furnished back terrace overlooking a well-tended garden. Continuing along the approach walk one arrives in a large tufo stone terrace accessed both by the main structure, which houses living and sleeping quarters, and by the side building housing the kitchen and dining room. In the main house there are two living areas which stretch the depth of the building - to the right a summery green and white sitting room with comfortable sofas, to the left a library and entertainment area with a wall of films, comfortable seating and a large fireplace. Both living areas have French doors to outdoor furnished terraces that look down to the pool. A central staircase leads up to three bedrooms: a large master double bedroom with dressing room and travertine-clad bathroom, a second double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a twin bedroom with a small ensuite shower room.
There is a festive sense of 'going out to dinner' at this property, for the dining room, in a separate building, with its fireplace and whimsical frescos is, in itself, a special place. The fact that there is a dream kitchen, spacious, wonderfully equipped, and easily set up to be the reign of a guest cook, makes it all the nicer. From the dining room there are French doors out to a covered eating area on the main patio handy to the barbecue, and other doors to an outdoor sitting room, furnished with touches of the East. Also in this building is a WC, a pantry and, on a lower level, the staff kitchen and laundry.
While around the pool there are sunbeds, a changing cabana and a vine-covered pergola for times when shade seems a friendlier option, the extensive grounds are perfect for a ramble in the woods. When inspired to venture out the property gates, it is a short drive to the amenities of the nearest village or to an 18-hole golf course. Excellent roads to Siena, with its bustling weekly market, its famous shell-shaped piazza and its meandering streets makes this medieval gem practically a neighbour. Yet also within an hour are the beaches of the southern Tuscan coast, Chianti villages of note and spas that welcome the weary. A wonderful corner to explore, a treat of a place to call your own all the holiday long.
Another glorious week and the accommodation was exceptionally comfortable and well appointed (although I did find it odd that there was only one overhead shower).
The house is perfectly designed to ensure that everyone can be together such as when eating around the big table or relaxing in the summer living room or have their own quiet time and space on the cottage terrace, or the side terrace or library.
Maria (and her daughter) could not have been more helpful and cooked for us on two occasions and we also had very good dinners in Sienna and Ristorante Cateni in Orgia.
The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped – two dishwashers(!)
The view from the house is also stunning (but I had been spoiled by Valdorcia!)
Podere Le Mandrie is stunning - more like a home than a holiday let and with the best-equipped kitchen I have ever cooked in on a holiday. A little tricky to find but worth the effort. Maria and Francesca, and Mario, are all delightful and make you feel right at home. We only ate out once at Da Canteni in Orgia - delicious. The rest of the time we BBQ'd - Mario cleaned it out and brought fresh wood each morning - we were spoilt. A fab holiday, great location and beautiful house. Thank you so much and we will definitely use you again if we go back to Tuscany.
I definitely want to give some feedback on Podere Le Mandrie. It was simply wonderful, the best we have stayed in Italy without doubt, and we have to thank you for it. It was everything you said and more. Beautiful house, lovely pool and the service provided by Maria and her daughter Francesca, who were absolutely charming, was first rate. With all the friends and family who came to visit us Maria's services were much needed and people still talk about the feasts that she managed put together every time we had a visitor. We had to endure the dirt track several times a day, but somehow that added to the charm of the place and underlined the fact that we were away from the crowds in a secluded and very private space. Once again, thank you so much for convincing me to take Podere Le Mandrie.
This place is one of the best places the group I travelled with (there were 7 of us) have ever stayed at. Classic Tuscany views and sunsets and sunrises that could make you weep. Very very special place. Very comfortable, clean and everything you could ever want. Even with two Tuscan kitties (very friendly). Maria (housekeeper) and Bruno (gardener) were a wonderful bonus. Kitchen is fabulous. Invitation to Tuscany wonderful to deal with. Just know you are renting a special place - no-one around - the peace is exquisite. And the figs and the other garden plantings - amazing.
Our stay at Podere le Mandrie was wonderful. This house and its surrounding are so marvellous that, at the very moment we have had a foot on the place, we knew it will be tears and cries when leaving and one week later it did!. I do not know where to begin, but everything was perfect. The house by itself. And the owner has strongly to be commended for the deco. Each piece of furniture is at the right place with the right fitting. The garden and numerous terraces are a must as you can read all along the day turning around the house to be on a delightful shadow. The view, especially when opening the rear door is to die for. The pool (was) very large, allowing for real swimming. The staff (Maria and Bruno) (were) so discreet, but so present and efficient. The cleanness of the house was really perfect upon arrival, the pool was all mornings a mirror, and when a trouble happened (namely a breakdown of the main electrical counter, the problem was fixed 3 hours later, which in Italy, on august, looks like a miracle!). We have had a true break, with an awesome feeling of peace.
I just would like to give the owner our greatest thanks for allowing us to rent the house. I just want to thank your agency for this opportunity. We surely be repeaters one day (and probably on this house, if possible). And you can be sure I will tell friends and family where to go when looking for a fine stay in Tuscany.
Regarding the notation on flipkey, I’m not very fund of social networks and so on. But you can copy the above-mentioned comments in your site without any problem.
Thank you very much again and… see you again one day.
