Prisma is a modern family home fashioned of glass and wide vistas located above Meina, a peaceful lakeside town on the western shore of Lake Maggiore. The villa, located in a quiet residential area, has a fenced garden that stretches over two levels and an inviting contemporary loggia that takes in both the private swimming pool and the lake beyond. Is it any wonder summer guests throw open patio doors to enjoy the majestic views as well as the breeze.
On the ground floor is a spacious eat-in kitchen opening onto an outside terrace with lake and mountain views, the perfect setting for meals al fresco. Also on this floor: a dining room for 10, a shower room and a laundry. Internal and external stairs access the first floor with a stylish living area and master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, as well as a second double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a children's bedroom with two wide inviting bunks beds, all using the shower room and WC on this floor. The house is beautifully decorated with colours that suit the mood of each room and the open plan layout give an airiness perfect for a lakeside holiday. The owners have obviously created the house for their own use and pleasure and guests benefit from the extra touches and quality furnishings.
Nearby Meina is a great base for sightseeing throughout the area. Be it sports activities including golf, sailing, tennis, hiking, all within 10 km., or splendid gardens and historic villas that surround the lake or, in the case of the enchanting "Borromeo" Islands, rest within it, Lake Maggiore has much to offer. Around Lake Maggiore are a number of spectacular gardens with exceptional displays of camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons, as well as historic villas and castles, sacred routes and medieval churches. The car-free town of Orta S Giulio is a veritable gem and here one must visit the 20 small frescoed chapels on the Sacro Monte above Orta San Giulio, each adorned with terracotta sculptures illustrating scenes from the life of Saint Francis. Or you might visit the past at the Rocca Borromeo fortified castle in Angera, taking the children along for the wonderful doll and automaton collection, knowing you can then return to the comfort of modern life and a glass of wine on your panoramic patio.
I last visited Prisma in February 2017 and was struck by the stunning views. The house is clearly a very well looked after property and the owner has tried to think of every detail to make the stay comfortable, but the real selling point is the position; it is a never ending delight to look out over the lake from the upper terrace. The idea of being there in the morning with a coffee, eating lunch overlooking the lake, or watching a summer storm circling the lake was just a delight. This would be a good base for exploring the lake and a real delight to come back to every evening.
