Location: Chianti Villas Tuscany
This property rents Saturday to Saturday
On 120 acres of olive groves, vineyards and woodlands, and a handful of minutes from the medieval villages of Castellina and Radda in Chianti, an ancient farmhouse, hay barn and sheep shed were built of the stones its rocky terrain had to offer and perched on rising natural terraces. The present owners moved the property into the present century and added the grace notes to make their own home and two guest houses truly lovely places from which to explore the famed Chianti region.
Separated from the owners' home by a wide grassy 'no man's land', the entrance is on the opposite side of the house and leads from the furnished flagstone terrace into a living area with corner fireplace and comfortable sofas. Beyond an archway is an attractive kitchen/dining area with a table for 6. A stairway at the entrance leads up to two bedrooms, a double with an ensuite shower room and a twin or double, which uses the adjacent shower room.
Nearby there are Castellina in Chianti, so prized by the Medici that they commission a fortress to protect it, and Radda in Chianti, the unofficial capital of the region, and Castello di Brolio, where the standards for the wine were set. All have excellent restaurants and enotecas, but with the possibility of having a cook at your home and a glassful on your terrace you may not see the need to wander.
