The best way to know a city is to live within its walls. This is especially true when speaking of Lucca, a veritable gem in the heart of Tuscany, which welcomes travelers with elegance, a liveliness that is never chaotic, and a wealth of culture. The walls that completely surround the city seem to protect it from the frenzy of contemporary life. Inside the walls each corner is a surprise, each street offers discovery - beautiful churches, ancient palaces, stylish shops, the welcoming squares full of cafes and restaurants.
The apartment is located on the top floor of an elegant four-storey building, there is no lift, but the destination is definitely worth the climb. Once you open the door you are in a large luminous living room, where ancient architecture blends well with comfortable modern furniture. Everything is welcoming and warm: the colorful sofas, the beautiful table set next to the window and the candles and nice cushions. The well-equipped galley kitchen also has a fireplace to accommodate indoor grilling and the nearby dining table for 6 overlooks the square. Next to the living room are two large double bedrooms with good views and elegant furnishings. The first has an ensuite bathroom, while the second uses the shower room across the living room. A few steps lead up to a large laundry and then further to a mezzanine and a bedroom whose relaxed modern style would be perfect for teenagers.
A few meters from the house it is also possible to rent a convenient private garage, perhaps the best way to avoid the cost of parking lots and the worry of not finding a place nearby.
Lucca is a wonderful city, full of discoveries to be made. It is possible to rent bicycles both to make the compete tour of the walls or move through the city with ease to explore its wonders - the beautiful churches, the strange amphiteatre square, via Fillung with its palaces and shops, and the oak tree-topped Guinigi Tower, which is the symbol of Lucca. But Lucca can also be the point of departure for excursions and activities of all kinds. In the neighboring countryside, one can visit wonderful villas and gorgeous parks, such as Villa Torrigiani, Villa Oliva, and Villa Grabau. A bit further there is the wild mysterious Garfagnana, an area of legends, mushrooms and chesnut woods. On the other side of Lucca, a half hour brings you to the seaside on the famous beaches of Versilia where sun and sea are combined with nightlife, glamour and shopping. And for city lovers there is Pisa just 30 km away or Florence, easily reachable in an hour and a half.
Just wanted to let you know what a great stay we had in San Francesco. Manuela was extremely helpful and accomodating, allowing us to leave late on the Saturday as we had a late flight. And as you know, arrive early. The accomodation was excellent, could not have been better, even better than the photos. Please could you forward our thanks to Manuela and also thank you to you for helping to organise our wonderful holiday.
