Location: Northern Coast of Tuscany
This property rents Saturday to Saturday
This tastefully refurbished top floor apartment forms part of a traditional Ligurian seafront villa and boasts captivating views of the Gulf of Poets. Entering the apartment with its fresh green interior, clean lines and all mod cons, one can't help but be drawn to the magnificent views of the ever changing seascape beyond. Facing south-west, the furnished terrace is the perfect spot for an alfresco breakfast through to a sundowner gazing at the stunning sunset at the end of a deliciously lazy day. Tellaro, as if hugging the mountains and flowing down to the shoreline is a short stroll from Tramonto. With its bougainvillia clad pathways, pretty buildings painted in a pallet of warm subtle shades and ever present reminders of its nautical soul, this idyllic seaside retreat is a place with which to fall in love and return to again and again.
Situated along the small road into town and 150 steps from a small beach, Tramonto is accessed via a double staircase at the back of the building. The open plan layout gives an air of light and space, and consists of a kitchen, dining area, a double sofa bed and doors to the main terrace. The open fireplace also makes the apartment a cosy bolt-hole for a winter break. Off the main living area there is a contemporary shower room and spacious double bedroom which has a second terrace with direct sea views, private but for the occasional passing seagull!! This attractive apartment has all you need for a comfortable stay, but it's really about the views!!
Awarded the "Borgo tra i cento piu belli d'Italia", placing it amongst the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy, Tellaro evolved over the centuries and was not architecturally designed with straight lines and conventional rules. The higgledy piggledy heart of the old town and the more structured modern villas on its outskirts form a blissful marriage of old and new to create a special gem on this bejeweled coastline. It was an obvious choice for artists and poets of a bygone age and today draws photographers and artists from faraway shores hoping to capture its magical light and soul-stirring views. The lively town square is a favourite haunt of locals to enjoy a morning coffee or an aperitivo, with a selection of local shops and delectable eateries just steps away including a Michelin starred restaurant. Real life goes on with the villagers all year around, but visitors are always welcomed to share this little piece of heaven. There are pretty coves dotted along this coastline where you can lose yourself soaking up the Mediterranean sun and marveling at the glistening waters. Some of these little bays can be reached by boat, others you can walk to from the apartment or easily arrive at by car or bus. Regular ferries depart for the World Heritage site of the Cinque Terre from nearby Lerici, Tellaro's bigger sister; itself an exquisite town with a stunning harbour and sandy beaches just a short drive or bus ride away. Heading inland you can explore the quarries of the treasured Carrara marble of which Michelangelo's David and many other of his masterpieces were crafted. Tramonto is the perfect location to experience la dolce vita Italiana!
Thank you for your postcard with the lovely painting of Tellaro!
We had a good week at Tramonto, and enjoyed meeting Giovanni who was always kind and helpful. The apartment was just as described and we spent a fair amount of time inside and on the balcony, it being so hot.
Some thoughts that you might want to add:
Travelling to La Spezia by train from the UK with a stop over in Geneva on the way there and Turin in the way back, was a nice way to go. Catching a bus from La Spezia to Lerici was easy, and Giovanni met us in Lerici.
The bus stop is right outside Tramonto and is very frequent from early morning to late at night making life without a car very easy.
I endorse the earlier comments about waste disposal. We used different bags, but it was unclear what to do with them. (Giovanni did take some on his visit to sort out the electricity)
The bus to Lerici and then the ferry to Portovenere is a great trip, as is the ferry around the islands. We found a good restaurant for vegetarians (us) - La Piazzetta, in Via Capellini 56
Thank you for your always prompt and careful attention before, during and after our visit. Please pass on our thanks to both Giovanni and Melissa whenever that may be possible.
We had a wonderful stay at Tramonto. The apartment was charming, the views were exquisite and we just loved Tellaro. The two little grocery shops kept us well provided and we were regular visitors to the gelateria in the little square in the evenings!
Everything went well; we met with the host as planned and he gave us good information. Melissa was in regular contact with us by SMS so we were well supported. We could not get the dishwasher to work but that was not a problem as we were happy to wash up! The procedures for disposal of rubbish were very slightly inconvenient. We understand and support fully the idea of sorted waste disposal, but the lack of different receptacles for this in or close to the apartment meant that we had to have a number of different plastic bags hanging around in the kitchen all the time. I'm not sure how other tenants have managed this? However, that is a minor point really. Everything else was just perfect. We did have a car, but hardly used it as we loved the little bus that ran a regular service between Lerici and Tellaro! A great week.
Thanks for your notes on the recycling - we'll speak to Melissa about making this a little easier. Glad you enjoyed your stay - Tellaro is a wonderful little village!
Just up the road from a peaceful fishing village off the tourist track. Excellent walking, lovely quiet village, good beach and the perfect place to locate our selves. Easy walking to neighbouring town for food shopping and boats etc. We were greated by Melissa and her father inlaw, Giovanni, who lives near by. They were so welcoming and you could see the pride in Giovanni for the apartment which was beautifully equipped, clean, perfect bed linen and soft towels, including beach towels. We were welcomed with milk, bottled water, coke and a beer. They had supplies in the cupboard such as pasta and a tomatoe sauce so we could enjoy our first evening if we chose to eat in. I felt they could not do enough for us and welcomed contact during our stay and were quick to assist when they could. We lived on the balcony when we were in as it had the best views morning and night and we were contented and comfortable. Thanks for a truely relaxing stay.
