Location: Luxury Villas for rent near Orvieto and Todi
This property rents from Saturday to Saturday
Villa dei Priori is a very pretty 17th C. stone farmhouse, built in honey coloured local stone. It sits undisturbed on a round hilltop in the unspoilt countryside between Todi and Orvieto and enjoys stunning views. The house has been restored, enlarged and modernised, while retaining its original farmhouse feel. The house sits at the end of a private unmade drive, and is surrounded by lawns leading into rolling hills embroidered with olive groves, vineyards and cypresses.
A paved, covered loggia runs the length of the house and is furnished for unforgettable meals outside. There is a wood oven for preparing pizza and barbeques. There are three doors from the patio into the house: one into a twin bedroom, one into a living room with fireplace, and the main door into the entrance hall.
The large, well-equipped farmhouse kitchen with a big kitchen table has a dishwasher and washing machine. A second living room with a fireplace has a large dining table. Beyond the living room are two double bedrooms, each with a shower room ensuite. One of these bedrooms and the kitchen have doors to the outside as well. There is a large bathroom off the entrance hall, and a storeroom. Upstairs, reached both by internal and external stairs, is another big sitting- room, with a fireplace. There are one twin and one double bedroom and two bathrooms on this floor, one of which is ensuite. The rooms are large, and the house is comfortably and attractively furnished in Umbrian style, in keeping with its old terracotta floors and beamed ceilings.
On the other side of the house the beautiful swimming pool and its covered loggia are reminiscent of the Roman spa pool at Bagno Vignoni.
This lovely house belongs to the owner of Castell'Orlando, and is on the same huge estate. You can easily reach the castle on foot. The estate is fenced, so you can safely bring pets, and explore the surrounding woods and meadows on wonderful walks.
Todi and Orvieto were on the important trade and pilgrim routes towards Rome. As a consequence, this area excels in important sculpture, architecture and paintings, including of course Orvieto's wonderful cathedral, whose facade, like a triptych with the dazzling Technicolor hues of its mosaics and richly beautiful sculptural detail, has earned it the nickname of the "Golden Lily of Cathedrals".
This area is famous for its food and wine, and one of Italy's most famous, (and most expensive) restaurants, Vissani, is very near by, at Baschi on Lake Corbara. There are masses of excellent restaurants everywhere and numerous wine cellars where you can try Orvieto's excellent wines and eat in the outdoor estate restaurant. Even better, you can arrange for an excellent cook to come to the house. A wonderful place to stay and indulge yourself in a surfeit of views, art, food, wine and, above all, peace, Villa dei Priori's farmhouse is a perfect foundation for a memorable and very special holiday.
We found a bottle of oil, wine and fresh flowers in every room ... nice details that make the start of any even more pleasant holiday. Our arrival and 'was warmly welcomed by Mario, the owner and' fascinating entrepreneur of Roman origin, courteous, kind, funny and personable and professional, in short, of those who did not are almost no more.
Had an amazing vacation with my family at Villa dei Priori for 2 weeks. Very comfortable, charming house on the top of a hill which offers great views and a constant refreshing breeze. It has a really nice large swimming pool with plenty of sun all day long. Mario could not have been a better host. Always making sure we had everything we needed and also gave us great recommendations for restaurants, places to visit and things to do around the area. Few highlight are visiting the town of Todi, Civilleta del Lago and Montecchio. It does not matter which direction you go you'll find beautiful scenery and great people. For the kids we had horseback riding, farms and adventure parks. A unique experience was having Mario's crew cooking an authentic Italian meal for us... simply amazing. For food lovers, there is a small shop called Pasta Fresca in Aviglano. This was also recommended by Mario. The shop opens from 8.30 to 12.30 and it is all pasta made that same day. Also several vineyards in the area with great wine. Our favorite was Montefalco but there ae plenty and we just did not have the time to visit them all. The house and the swimming pool is constantly maintained, cleaned and the staff is very friendly. This is a vacation to never forget. Big thanks to Mario, Rita and Gopi.
This is a stunning villa in a stunning location. Perched on top of a hill and surrounded by endless rolling countryside, the house provides all you require for a relaxing, tranquil break from urban life. The large pool, filled with spring water, was a haven of cool escape for our party of 8 during the Lucifer heatwave that coincided with our two week August 2017 visit and the long tiled table under a rich green canopy on the front terrace was perfect for eating out and gazing into the distance. Owner Mario Santoro is the perfect guide to the area - full of local knowledge and ideas, he provides instant answers to all questions and treats his visitors as if they were friends. This place is a real gem.
We stayed 3 weeks with our son, daughter-in-law, and 1 year old grandson and had visits from another grandparent and son and daughter-in-law. It was great to have so much space, incomparable views, and the Umbrian breezes. We took advantage of wonderful catered meals at the Villa – fresh pasta with truffles, pizza party using the wood-burning stove. After visiting nearby towns – Orvieto, Todi, Spoleto, Dureta, Amelia—we looked forward to returning for a dip in the pool to cool off. Our grandson loved feeding the outdoor cat and the goats down the road. It was a memorable family trip, which we will long remember.
My husband and I have spent the last 3 months living in this delightful house. The location is idyllic surrounded by beautiful countryside and was a perfect base to explore Umbria. We had dozens of visitors during our stay and everyone loved the rustic charm of the house and friendly locals. Mario is so kind and helpful and made our stay one that we hope to repeat next year.
