In walking distance to Massino Visconti, a hillside village south of Stresa, Marea is a large villa overlooking Lake Maggiore that is perfect for a family reunion or gathering of friends. Dating back to the 15th century, but newly restored and sporting a coat of deep coral or dusky rose, depending on the light, the property has a lovely courtyard over which a towering magnolia tree reigns. To one side on the ground level a spacious furnished arcade, to the other a gated panoramic pool and a gazebo for outdoor meals.
The villa accommodation is divided into three apartments and two additional double bedrooms that can interconnect with the two larger two bedroom apartments. Accommodation is mainly situated on the first floor of the building, except for the kitchen, dining and living room of the largest two-bedroom apartment, which can also be accessed from the ground floor. The apartments each have independent entrances onto a large, furnished loggia, the perfect location for the whole group to congregate and dine together outdoors. The second two-bedroom apartment is situated at the far end of the loggia while the one bedroom apartment is in the middle. Having three kitchens, dining and living rooms makes the property ideal for families who want to holiday together but also may require some private space. (Please see individual apartments (Ref. 507, 508 and 509 for further details.)
While the helpful villa caretakers have an apartment on the ground floor and their own part of the garden, guests have exclusive use of the pool. A stone staircase from the courtyard provides a shortcut up to the shops and restaurants in the village, and in 10 minutes you could be aboard a ferry heading to the fascinating Borromeo islands, the elegant town of Pallanza or the famed botanic gardens of Villa Taranto.
